University of Pittsburgh Online

University of Pittsburgh, a well known school for its top notch education, now allows students to study online to earn various degrees and certificates. The university has opted to keep up with the fast pace that is life today. The online programs offered by University of Pittsburgh allow students to take their classes whenever it is best for them on any given day. Students can complete their task at anytime and from anywhere.

There are several different programs that the university offers fully online. Each of the degrees or certificates is placed under one of the four main programs which include School of Education Online, School of Nursing Online, and the University Center for Social & Urban Research (UCSUR) Online. Included in these main programs are the degrees and/or certficates that a student can earn. For example with the School of Education Online, students can get a degree in Master of Education (MEd) in English & Communications or in elementary education. Each online “school” so to speak offers relevant degrees and certifications.

For students who are interested in partially online programs, University of Pittsburgh offers two degrees that students can earn while attending on-campus courses and completing ones online. The first is the School of Information Sciences where students can earn a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). There is also a FastTrack MLIS available which is 36 credits and is meant for those students who are looking to work in the information career field.

Also available is the College of General Studies (CGS) which allows students to study many different areas. This is more of an open ended program that allows students to take online, hybrid, and in-class courses and is a great option for those students who truly require a lot of flexibility.

Online learning is definitely an entirely new experience, especially for those college newcomers who are fresh out of high school. To make things seem a bit less daunting and unknown, online the University of Pittsburgh routinely hosts a virtual open house. Each open house is scheduled to be attended by students interested in one of the specific programs that the college offers. For example, students interested in the MEd in English and Communications programs will attend a different e-Open house than those looking to enroll in the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) program. Attending the virtual open house is a great way to learn about the college's online learning and the various programs offered.
