There are many individual subjects you might want to teach. You should first decide on which age group you'd most like to teach. You can select from Early Childhood, Elementary K-6, Middle Grades or High School. For each of these you will need a degree with certification from your state. You can earn an Associate degree and be qualified to teach at a preschool center. For Kindergarten or above, you will need at least a Bachelor's degree.
Today, it's easy to earn your degree in Teaching entirely online. You can stay at your present job and earn your teaching credentials at the same time. Online courses are great for busy professionals. You can earn an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree all the way up to a Doctorate in Education. The further you go in your studies, the further you will go in your teaching career.
Online programs range from classroom teaching for grades from Kindergarten to 12th grade. You select the subject matter you want to specialize in. For a K-6 teaching degree, you will need to take courses in subjects like math, science, social studies, psychology, reading and more. You will be teaching every subject in the elementary classroom, so you'll need to know it all. If you want to teach middle school or high school , you select the subject you want to teach. History, science, art, math, English and more are all subjects you can specialize in.
Doctoral programs online will allow you to become an administrator or principal. You will take advanced courses in management and in policy and school law.
