What do Sociology graduates train in? They graduate as experts in human behavior and how humans relate to other people. Basically, you will study how people's behaviors have an impact on the social and religious communities as well as how their behavior affects laws, change and the culture at large.
Sociology is a very interesting field. If you love to dig into why people do what they do, this is the career path for you. As a health care major with a Sociology degree, you can provide services to hospitals and clinics as well as schools and government. You will be recognized as an expert in ethics and law and you can act as a community liaison, advisor or representative for an organization.
Employers are looking for people with Sociology degrees who can help them determine how better to run their establishment. After all, organizations are run by people and you will have a good grasp of why people do what they do and how best to help them relate better to each other.
You may choose to study a specific aspect of sociology so you can enter a branch of the health sciences that interests you most. You may study gender and how it is used in the hiring process and how it affects promotions and the way employees relate to each other. You may choose to study Medical Sociology which studies how different subcultures react to the spread of disease, such as the AIDS epidemic. You may start a clinic or helpful discussion group to assist people with certain conditions and diseases.
Other areas of Sociology include Family Studies. You may choose to become an aide to the court system helping children of divorced parents or the divorcing couple themselves. You will be able to give a unique perspective on why the divorce rate is so high and what people can do to prevent divorce. You may choose to become a community advocate and work with schools or churches or government to help create programs and policies.
Sociology is a very well-respected field of study and you will find that your job is never the same on any two days. You will be working in a dynamic field that is constantly growing and evolving. You may just be the force to bring about change that will improve the quality of people's lives. It's an excellent career choice.
