Tradition underpins Trainer1's radical new product
by Anonymous

Trainer1 has drawn on highly traditional learning theory to underpin a radical concept in online learning. The specialist independent supplier and developer of bespoke learning delivered by computer has launched a ‘high tech' version of traditional ‘flash cards' in a new program - called ‘Learning Cards' - which allows users to make sets of revision cards when learning online.

Like a flash card, each Learning Card is two sided – with the question on one ‘side' and the answer on the other. There are no limits on the number of cards that there can be in each set.

Neil Lasher, Trainer1's managing director, commented: "This low cost authoring tool has great potential to help learners – in the same way as flash cards have been highly effective aids to learning over very many years.

"Not only is it possible to master the technology behind producing Learning Cards in about 30 minutes but the applications of this technology range from teaching basic skills such as maths and reading, through GCSE, AS and A level examinations to professional examinations."

Learning Cards are presented on the user's computer monitor in a ‘skin' – enabling developers to 'brand' the cards with a logo or image. The program's editor package outputs a single file that can be transferred to disk or sent by email.

Lasher added: "Each card can contain text, graphics, animation, Flash, audio and make use of RTF and HTML files. Graphics automatically resize to fit the Learning Card and they can be presented in a random order to the end user."

Demo versions of Learning Cards – allowing users to make sets of up to five cards - are available free of charge. Two versions are available, Pro Version for Authors wishing to sell created material is available in a 5 user license and Personal Version for home users to create their own flash card sets. Pricing is GBP £ 30 for the Personal Version and GBP £ 299 for the Pro Version. Academic Pricing on request.
